Clinical Pilates

Movement therapy that is individually tailored.

Clinical Pilates is a method of exercise used for rehabilitation after injury, injury prevention, during the postpartum period or pregnancy. Your physio will combine Pilates principles in your sessions to make improvements in: pain control, posture, flexibility, muscle strength, control, balance and core and pelvic floor strengthening.

Laine incorporates Pilates matwork into her physiotherapy sessions.

Advantages of working with a physiotherapist who practices clinical Pilates is that other physiotherapy treatment methods can be incorporated into sessions, such as: soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, manual therapy and pelvic health physiotherapy.

Types of injuries and conditions who would benefit from clinical pilates include:

  • Preparing for pregnancy

  • Improving comfort in pregnancy

  • Preparing for birth

  • Improving postpartum recovery

  • Musculoskeletal injuries (neck, back, knees, shoulders etc)

  • Incontinence

  • Pelvic organ prolapse

  • Pelvic girdle pain

  • Pubic symphysis pain

  • Low back pain, sciatica

  • Sacroiliac joint pain

  • Diastasis Recti (abdominal separation)

  • Return to sport/ sports injuries

Assessment (70 minutes)

Required prior to your first clinical Pilates session, a comprehensive virtual physiotherapy assessment will include: discussion of medical conditions and history, birth history, birth preferences and goals if pregnant, physical observation and tests to gauge your mobility, strength, flexibility and tension.

An individually tailored Pilates program will then be designed to work toward your health goals such as recovering from injury,  building your fitness profile, having a comfortable pregnancy, preparing for your upcoming birth or easing your postpartum recovery.

Clinical Pilates Sessions (45 min or 60 min)

A clinical pilates session is one-on-one and may include small props such as pilates balls, foam roller, Pilates ring and weights. The length of session will depend on your goals and will be discussed during your assessment.

Sessions may also include: pelvic floor exam, hands on therapy or other physiotherapy treatment techniques.

Insurance

As with all physiotherapy sessions at Trail Physio, an emailed version of your receipt will be sent following your session which you may then submit to your extended health benefits under physiotherapy.

A doctor’s referral is only required should your insurance company request it prior to submission of treatment receipts.
